Kanturk Castle
To the south of Kanturk sits Kanturk castle, known as ‘The Old Court’. Situated a 1km walk from Iec Campus, with pedestrian pathways provided for the duration of the walk, this is worth a visit. Built in the 17th Century, by the MacDonagh MacCarthys, Lords of Duhallow, it was an unfinished castle constructed as a defence against the English. Legend has it that instructions were issued to cease construction once it's purpose was learned of and it was never roofed.
